About our Fiscal Sponsor

We are pleased to announce that the Center for Interreligious Understanding will serve as the 501 (c) 3 fiscal sponsor* for all tax-deductible donations to THE CAVE [the film and affiliated education and youth outreach projects.]

The Center for Interreligious Understanding (CIU) provides educational programs and policy leadership to promote honest dialogue, mutual respect, and theological understanding among global religious leaders. By exploring the theological foundations, common goals, and shared values of the world's religions, the CIU fights religious stereotypes and intolerance to foster genuine understanding. Director Rabbi Jack Bemporad has over 30 years of hands-on experience and is an accomplished global leader on interfaith issues.

Education. The CIU educates theologians, academics, and laity about interfaith issues among Christians, Jews, and Muslims including sacred texts, Holocaust revisionism, and the Middle East. Rabbi Bemporad is the only Rabbi on staff at a Vatican University.

Awareness. Through its historic Menorah Project, the CIU places Holocaust memorial menorahs in major Catholic centers, including The Vatican, to bring Christians and Jews together to remember the millions killed during the Holocaust and raise awareness of contenporary anti-Semitism.

Rabbi Jack Bemporad and his family were Holocaust refugees from Italy, escaping when he was just five years old. He has dedicated his life to improving the relationship between Christians, Muslims, and Jews worldwide. He has served as Chairman of the Interreligious Affairs Committee of the Synagogue Council of America; represented Orthodox, Conservative and Reform rabbinical and lay bodies at The Vatican, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, the National Council of Churches, the World Council of Churches, and the national and international branches of the Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopal, and Baptist churches.

He is the only Rabbi on staff at a Vatican University, where he is Professor of Interreligious Studies at St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) University in Rome. He is the author of numerous books and articles; and the primary writer of the Prague Agreement, the first time the Vatican asked forgiveness of the Jewish people for past acts of anti-Semitism.
